More PS3 Online: Resistance FoM is much better
Okay, so I had a bit of a rant last night about MotorStorm's online lobby system, and in the cold light of day, the comments still apply. Any system that leaves you hanging on to play for minutes at a time for no clear reason can't be good.
But credit where it's due: Sony has certainly got things right with fellow PS3 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man. Although there's about 76 different ways to play the game online, if you plump for the basic 'I want to get shooty with random people who are roughly the same level as me', you're plonked straight into a group, and within not-many seconds, you're playing.
I won't comment too much on the actual gameplay mechanics. Suffice to say, if you're a first-person shooter guru, you'll love the online mode. And if you're not, you'll just run around like a headless chicken getting killed lots. But you'll still love it. I fall into the second category.
Anyway, the lobby system for Resistance: FoM is superb, although it makes it doubly frustrating that MotorStorm couldn't attack the problem of matching up players in as good a way. I'm also interested by the fact that both games require an update download (and a reset of your PS3) before you can play them online.
