PS3s banned from UK cells
The UK government has banned PS3s from prisons due to concerns that its WiFi capabilities could enable convicted criminals to access the internet, according to website Spong.
Speaking in Parliament on March 28th Home Secretary, John Reid said that inmates wont be allowed a PS3 due to its ability to "send and receive radio signals".
This follows on from a similar PS2 ban in 2006, due to inmates using their PS2s to watch porn. Interestingly however, there doesn’t seem to be a ban on Wii’s even though you can access the internet through these consoles too. Perhaps the advanced Wi-Fi features on the PS3 is what’s worrying them rather than prisoner internet access…
