Sony planning PS3 hard drive upgrades?
![]()
There’s an interesting little story over at Kotaku: Sony has filed the US Federal Communications Commission to request a “Class II permissive change” to the PS3. The change in question was for some circuit modifications to the Bluetooth antenna. However, permission was also requested for an 80GB version of the PS3 to be included into the FCC grant.
I don’t know what to make of this one, to be honest. A 20GB jump isn’t really that substantial. A large hard disk upgrade to hold tons of hi-def content I could understand, but 20GB? What’s possible is that this is the first step in Sony’s plan to continually upgrade the hard disks in PS3 SKUs, perhaps on a regular basis. Might also help the PS3 compete with the new Xbox360 Elite's expanded hard drive.
Anyone have any good conspiracy theories?
