UK PS3 unboxed and unleashed
Phew. The friendly man from Parcelforce just knocked on the door, dropping off one shiny new PS3. And it is very shiny. Anyway, I haven't fired it up yet, as I've been doing the obligatory unboxing shots. See below, then click on over the jump to see more. Don't worry, I haven't done the US journo thing of putting myself into every photo, gurning. Honest.

The box. Stylish. Classy. Cardboard. Okay, it's just a box. On with the show.

Here's what you really want to know – what you get inside the box. The console, obviously, plus (anti-clockwise from top-left) a power lead, AV cable plus Scart connector, manuals, one Sixaxis controller, a USB cable and an Ethernet cable. No surprise HDMI cable then...

The PS3 really is very shiny, have I said that before? I'm going to have to buy some burglar gloves before handling it, for fear of grubby fingerprints.

Sixaxis in the hand. If I shake it with tiny movements, I can pretend it rumbles. Seriously though, as much as I love the Wiimote, there is something comfortable about Sony's iconic joypad too.

The slot-loading drive. Another nice thing about PS3 is it's clutter-free, controls wise. Certainly compared to the average DVD recorder or home hi-fi, anyway.

The ports at the back. HDMI Out, LAN ethernet, Digital Out (Optical) and AV Multi Out (plus power button and socket, not pictured).
