Aussie retailers desperate to shift PS3s

This ought to get an award for most unusual marketing scheme of the year - Australian retailer JBHi-Fi is trying to shift more PS3s with a sign stating that “there will be no price drop ‘til ‘09”. The idea must be to stop people just hanging on until Sony drops the price, although somehow I don’t think the idea of saying ‘it’s not getting any cheaper so you might as well buy it now because you’re going to crack sooner or later’ is really going to work that well.

Australia has displayed a surprising apathy towards the PS3 with only luke warms sales figures, especially compared to the Sony's claims of a phenomenal success of the console in Europe. If Sony really isn’t prepared to change its pricing policy then it looks like it faces a difficult battle to win over gamers Down Under. Either that or they’ll have to start shipping those 20GB PS3s over from Japan. Read via MaxConsole
