Sony considers larger hard drive for PS3
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, a Sony spokesperson has revealed that the console manufacturer is ‘considering’ launching a new model with a larger hard drive at some point in the future. This is hardly surprising following Sony’s recent FCC application that mentioned an 80GB model. However, I’d say that a meagre 20GB isn’t going to cut it, so I expect it will be something a bit weightier.
I think I’m more in favour of Microsoft’s approach to disc upgrades on this one: get the content out there, then worry about the storage space. At the moment, Sony’s PlayStation Store is severely lacking in content to download and, as far as I know, isn’t even available in every region yet. Furthermore, even if you did spend ages putting all your CDs on to the PS3, it probably wouldn’t make much of a dent in the existing 60GB. Sony needs to concentrate on fleshing out the store and making it easier to get entertainment content on to the PS3 (with better video format support, for example) before starting to produce larger versions.
