When dead goats turn bad... Sony investigates misguided publicity stunt

goat.jpgPlayStation promos tend to tread the fine line between bad taste and edginess, which is why we love ‘em. But it looks like the line was crossed this time after the Mail on Sunday hit out against the use of a headless goat as the centre piece of a God of War 2 event held in Athens last month.

Some 80,000 copies of Future Publishing’s Official PlayStation Magazine have been removed from shelves so that offending pictures of the goat can be removed. Sony is also beginning an official investigation into the situation, stating “It has come to our attention that at the God Of War II launch showcase, an element of the event was of an unsuitable nature. We are conducting an internal inquiry into aspects of the event in order to learn from the occurrence and put into place measures to ensure that this does not happen again.”

While the presence of the headless goat, provided by a local butcher, probably was a bit much, the Mail didn’t seem so fussed about the topless girls, snake pits and knife throwing event also present at the party. Furthermore, while the Mail alleges that “Guests at the event were even invited to reach inside the goat’s still-warm carcass to eat offal from its stomach”, Sony has categorically denied that this took place. This was made somewhat easier to believe when it was revealed that the author of the article in the Mail did not actually attend the event.

Official PlayStation Magazine has been pulled but will be back in a few days sans offending article. However, some subscribers may still have got the unedited version through the post. Time for a spot of eBaying I reckon.
