PS3's Strangehold to include free copy of Hard Boiled

Midway has revealed that the collectors edition of upcoming FPS, Stranglehold, will also come with a pretty sweet freebie – a copy John Woo’s Hard Boiled movie. Proving that there is bags of space on a Blu-ray disc just waiting to be put to some creative purpose, the HD version of the movie will be stored on the same disc as the game – although it kind of makes you wonder why, if there is so much space going round, Sony isn’t packaging more of such video material with its games. That would hardly hurt sales, would it?

John Woo’s Stranglehold is the gaming sequel to the movie Hard Boiled and also features Chow Yun-Fat in the lead role as ‘Tequila’. John Woo’s unique directing style will be carried over into the game so you can probably expected lots of slow-motion angular shots featuring white doves and wicked amounts of pistol shootouts where the shooters fire at each other with laser-like precision only to just miss every time. I’m not really a fan of Woo’s movies, but I can see this might appeal to me more in a video gaming medium.

The collectors edition is set to cost a fairly hefty $70 when it launches – there’s no word on UK pricing yet, but judging from other PS3 game prices I’m guessing somewhere in the region of £50 - £60 over here.
