PSP sales jump 60% following price cut
On May 4th Sony announced a £20 drop in the price of its handheld console, the PSP. Sony’s sales department has obviously been pretty pleased with the results and has revealed that after the price cut, the PSP enjoyed a 60% surge in sales. It isn’t clear how fast the console was selling before the cut, but even still, it’s probably something for Sony to rejoice.
The new price of £130 for the basic pack is a fair bit closer to being able to compete more directly with massively popular Nintendo DS Lite. Now all that Sony needs to do is complement the handheld device with some decent first-party titles and PSP exclusives to try to buck the trend of taking so many weakened console ports. That said, recent releases such as Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters are currently doing an excellent job of improving the PSP’s portfolio and there are good things on the horizon too.
Once PSN makes some PSOne games available for the PSP as well, we could be looking at a serious comeback for Sony’s high tech device. Read
