Sony to support PS3 "for the next ten years and beyond"
Speaking to the L.A. Times (via gamesindustry.biz), SCEA president Jack Tretton has stated that Sony is going to give long-term support to the PS3. "We didn't get into PS3 for the first six months of 2007 - we're into this for the next 10 years and beyond," he said. "A million units one way or another at this point isn't going to worry us."
Most would agree that the PS3 hasn't yet found its feet as a gaming platform. It’s got a few good games, but nothing that really jumps out at you. But if Sony’s got the hardware right, then in the long run, its prospects are better. Sony has to prove over the next few years that the PS3 has the edge when it comes to the hardware. This will attract more gamers and in turn will attract more developers who’ll be more keen to produce exclusive content. Of course a lot will depend on how Blu Ray fares, as pointed out by Pachter.
