Fatal Inertia ‘not running well enough’ on PS3 to release yet
As you may know, futuristic racing title Fatal Inertia was originally touted as a PS3 exclusive. It then turned into a multiplatform release, followed by the news that an Xbox 360 release was on the cards for September, with the PS3 version delayed. Games Radar has reported that the reason behind Fatal Inertia’s delayed appearance is due to ‘difficulties’ that Koei has had with Unreal Engine performance on the PS3.
The game is ‘not running well enough,’ according to a Koei rep, despite being originally designed for it. We’ve heard reports before that the PS3 is tough to program for. Even if the PS3’s got a lot of power, having it difficult for developers to access that power is going to be a disincentive for third-parties in the short-term, especially given the higher user base currently enjoyed by Sony’s competitors. Unsurprisingly, the challenge for Sony lies in proving that they have the more powerful hardware, over the course of the next ten years. Still, it'll be interesting to see if the final version of Fatal Inertia for the PS3 ends up looking different to the Xbox 360 version.
