HD DVD outsells Blu-ray in Europe (oh, but only if you ignore the PS3)

ToshibaHD-E1.jpgThe European HD DVD Promotional Group has claimed it has a 74 percent market share in Europe’s main markets for stand-alone players, reports MSNBC. It's hardly surprising that the part Microsoft-owned news network would attempt to gloss over the fact that this sales figures did not take into account the Blu-ray player included in the PlayStation 3 console.

This shows just how much of a difference the PS3 is making in the high definition format wars. But there are two ways of looking at it: sales of the PS3 might just be artificially inflating the popularity of the Blu-ray format without adding anything to disc sales. On the other hand, why would you cough up for a full blown Blu-ray player when you can get a console that offers basically the same thing?

This got me wondering about PS3 owners and Blu-ray movies. I confess that I haven’t bought a single movie on Blu-ray yet as I’m pretty happy with DVD collection, but how about anyone else - have you bought any Blu-ray movies to go with your PS3? Did Blu-ray make a big difference to your purchasing decision? Tell us in the comments.
