Konami: We see little impact from a price cut

konami.jpgSpeaking to Reuters last night, Kazumi Kitaue, head of Konami's North American and European operations said in no uncertain terms that Konami wondered if "Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100."

In a candid interview he continued by saying that "I don't expect a substantial impact ... With $500, you can buy a personal computer." Not the most impressive quote that Sony might have hoped for since yesterday's announcement of a price drop to $499 (£247) for the 60GB version of the PS3 leading up the to introduction of an 80GB model in August, in the states at least.

Following that with the admission that Konami might need to take its best franchises multi-platform due to low sales of PS3 software worldwide, he went on to say "Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But, we might have to take some steps."

What that means, we won't speculate on, but tomorrow's conference from Microsoft (4.30am) could lead to some interesting announcements indeed.
