Nirvana 'Nevermind' to join Rock Band's downloadable albums

EA and Harmonix’s Rock Band is one massive hype-train that just won’t stop. Details released so far have emerged in fits and starts, slowly building into a full picture, but every time you think you’ve got everything down a little more wriggles out of the woodwork. Today’s tantalising titbit is that Nirvana’s seminal album, Nevermind, will be a further addition to the downloadable albums announced at E3, which has already been confirmed to include content from The Who and Metallica.

With the promise of weekly updates to Rock Band’s downloadable content catalogue, Microsoft and Sony are no doubt gleefully rubbing their hands in sweet anticipation of all those extra digital payments rolling in. While I object to the idea of having to shell out even more on top of the price of the game and those costly accessories, I’ll admit it is essential that there is a serious amount of extra content to choose from, otherwise there’s the danger that all those online bands will end up playing the same stuff. I’m intrigued to know how things will work if, for example, only three of your band members have bought a particular set of downloadable tracks…
