No Gran Turismo 5 until 2008?
It looks like petrol heads won’t be getting their hands on the long-awaited fifth iteration of the Gran Turismo series until next year at the earliest. The latest edition of Car and Drive has reported that GT5 would be launching in Spring 2008 but that could even be delayed further as Sony is letting them have as much time as they like to get it perfect.
I suppose you can’t really complain about a developer wanting to get a game absolutely spot on before releasing it, but from a business perspective this is leaving Sony with a large gap in the driving sim market. Microsoft has already filled that gap with the excellent Forza 2, which has basically stolen Gran Turismo’s crown as king of the driving simulators in spite of rumours that it is crashing Xboxes.
Gran Turismo HD on PSN was an excellent demonstration of what could be done with the power of the PS3, but it will probably have to take a fairly giant step forward if it’s to significantly outshine Forza 2. Sony has confirmed or denied the story yet, so treat as rumour for now. More news as we get it.
