Resident Evil 5 details emerge
Some more details about the eagerly awaited next instalment of Resident Evil have hit the web. Producer Jun Takeuchi recently revealed to Famitsu that the main character is indeed Chris Redfield, now a member of something called the BSAA. He’s sent into investigate something in the desert, where he’ll encounter a new foe that’s not zombie or Ganado, but will apparently have intelligence. The Resident Evil 4 camera perspective will be back, with Takeuchi promising a bug surprise addition that he said would be an obvious evolution for the gameplay. Light will also play an important part in the game. If you go from a bright to dark area, it’ll take a few seconds for your vision to adjust, adding tension in moments when you’ll be unable to see what might be trying to eat you. No release date was forthcoming, but apparently there was a consensus that the game would arrive before 2010. Yippee.
An obvious addition to gameplay? My two main bets would be either a new zombification mechanic, or perhaps a hunger system. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater had a hunger mechanic, which did manage to add some variation to the gameplay, even if it felt like an incidental addition at the time. Seeing as how Chris is marooned in the desert, having to find food or supplies to keep him going could work quite nicely on a gameplay level. Any theories?
