Tecmo not fans of E3
Ninja Gaiden Sigma developer Tecmo has voiced its dislike of the new E3 format to website Gamespot. "New show management didn't seem to know what they were doing," said Tecmo VP John Inada "I don't have money to waste on an experimental project. Previously, we were not treated very nicely by the old E3 management, so we didn't feel obligated to cooperate this year. I also heard that a lot of the [retail] buyers weren't coming." Whereas the previous year’s E3 had 400 exhibitors and 60,000 attendees, this year’s has just 36 participating companies and about 5,000 guests.
It’s going to interesting to see how this one unfolds. It’s true that E3 was originally set up as an industry-only event, which later blossomed into a far more consumer-orientated event. There’s nothing wrong with returning to a more industry-centric format, and from the sounds of it, Tecmo's problems with E3 date to before the format change. There's still TGS for more public showings of games. There are still a heck of a lot of games on show, as well as keynotes from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. At least we'll be able to keep up with Sony events through the PSN.
