UMD-less PSP games on the way?

memory_slot_w_card.jpgSony has apparently included an ISO loader into its recent PSP 3.50 and 3.51 update, as reported by Eurogamer. In theory, this means that you could play games that are loaded onto your memory stick, thus foregoing the need for a UMD. As of yet, there’s no word from Sony as to what exactly the loader will be used for.

This could definitely be a good thing for the PSP. If Sony uses the ISO loader in conjuction with that promised PSP store, then perhaps we could see a little more casual content for the handheld. At the moment, there are just too few good pick up and play games for the console (Lumines excepted, of course).
