Games not to blame for Virginia massacre, report concludes

virginia-tech-ar.jpgVideogames have been blamed as a factor in many violent events over the last few years, but yet again the hobby has been vindicated as the reason behind an awful massacre, with Governor Tim Kaine's Virginia Tech Review Panel report shows that Seung Hui Cho, the murderer of 32 people during the gun rampage of Virginia Tech earlier this year, was not a gamer, and that games played no role in the tragic event.

The report makes references to videogames on several occasions, but never draws any links between gaming and the event itself.

"None of the videogames were war games or had violent themes. He liked basketball and had a collection of figurines and remote controlled cars,” the report says. “Cho's roommate never saw him play videogames. The only activities Cho engaged in were studying, sleeping, and downloading music. He never saw him play a videogame, which he thought strange since he and most other students play them."

This is another scupper for Jack Johnson, who was there ‘at the police line’ blaming games from the word go. Even Dr Phil joined in the gaming criticism, citing games to blame. Perhaps sometimes people simply need something to blame, a cause to campaign against, but again its been proven that it shouldn’t be gaming.
