Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be free, car damage still on the cards
The new Gran Turismo 5 Prologue edition is set to be available as free download from the PlayStation Network – that’s according to some late breaking Leipzig Games Convention news that slipped beneath our radar. I must say I’m surprised; after all, PSN is already blessed with a surprisingly decent free Gran Turismo game and the new multiplayer component, new cars and new tracks in Prologue means that there would probably be plenty of people willing to fork out a few quid for the cut down title. Still, I’m not one to snub a freebie like this, so good one Sony.
Other news emerging from Leipzig is that car damage might well be back on the agenda. This is an area that Polyphony Digital seems to have been struggling with and there have been numerous rumours and conflicting reports about it since GT5 was first talked about. Obviously the Xbox 360’s hit racer Forza 2, which does support vehicle damage, must be a major motivating factor and according to the latest reports, creator Kazunori Yamauchi has promised that damage model is being worked on. That doesn’t sound like it’s set in stone yet, but we’re hopeful.
