Rumbling Sixaxis prototypes rumour rubbished - Devs don't have them yet says Sony
Despite a promising rumour that the elusive rumblin’ Sixaxis would be receiving an official announcement in the next few weeks, it seems it is not to be. Speaking to GamePro, Sony’s Dave Karraker has rubbished reports that prototypes of the new controllers are already in the hands of developers and claims that the only upgrade at the moment is a minor enhancement to the motion sensitivity.
"We have not added rumble, and have no announcements regarding this feature," said Karraker, adding “From time to time, we make minor enhancements to the controllers for our platforms. We recently sent out to the development community some new prototypes that have a slightly enhanced sensitivity for the analog sticks and the motion sensing within the Sixaxis controller.”
Guess we’ll just have to wait this one out – after the backlash from Sony’s decision to drop the rumble feature, it is almost guaranteed that something will come rumbling along sooner or later. Plus this certainly wouldn’t be the first time that Sony has denied a rumour that soon turned out to be pretty close to the mark. However, normally this tactic relates to price cut rumours which run the risk of restricting sales while potential buyers hold their money back waiting for a cheaper option. Clearly a new controller wouldn’t fall into that category.
Earlier in the year, Sony Computer Entertainment's global president Kaz Hirai confirmed that a rumble features was being looked at.
