Major studios turn up the gas on Blu-ray discs
As we reported last week, many European independent film distributors are releasing movies on Blu-ray this autumn, and this has now been followed up with some major Hollywood additions too.
For example, Walt Disney Studios has announced the studio’s first ever Platinum Title on Blu-ray.
Traditionally, Walt Disney Studios does not release its most prestigious titles on a new format until it is absolutely certain of the long-term viability of the platform. So news that Platinum-selling Sleeping Beauty will be available on Blu-ray this autumn is a clear indication of the studio’s confidence in BD.
Warner is amongst some of the other studios gearing up to release its big titles on Blu-ray in the run up to Christmas, including Ocean’s Thirteen, which will be released together with the other two movies within the franchise – Ocean’s 11 and 12. At the same time, Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix will be released alongside the other four movies in the series, which is bound to start getting movie fans to feel like its time to start a Blu-ray collection.
