The latest edition of PSP Firmware has arrived and remember kids it’s not just there to add another layer of security to foil those persistent hackers and home brewers, oh no. Firmware 3.70 adds some all-important features we’ve all been clamouring for – like a scene search during UMD movie playback. Wowzer! And custom button assignment during Remote Play. Jeepers! And sequential playback for movies. And the ability to listen to music and look at photos SIMULTANEOUSLY! It’s like Christmas came early.

The most exciting offering in this latest patch is the custom themes support. These will change not just the PSP background, but the very look of the XMB itself. I’ll be interested to see what these look like, as all I can find is a picture rather than an actual theme to try out. It would be especially neat if Sony came up with a means of letting you make your own custom themes, but I’m guessing for the moment they may come with future PSP titles or as part of the anticipated PSP Store whenever that launches.
