Sony dismiss £299 PS3 reports as mere "rumour and speculation"

ps32.jpgAfter yesterdays reports that Sony was all set to announce a cheaper, cut down model of the PS3, the Japanese company have responded, claiming that it’s all mere “rumour and speculation”.

The cheaper model, expected to retail for £299, features a smaller hard drive, and lacks the USB ports and backwards compatibility of the more expensive console currently on the shop shelves.

So what’s the truth? There’s no definitive word from Sony, but the lack of absolute denial does point towards something currently in the works. With the PS3 already chopped down in price elsewhere in the world, us European gamers should indeed feel a touch frustrated with Sony’s insistence that we’re happy to “pay a premium” for our consoles.
