The Eye of Judgment: Pricing, preventing cheating, booster packs and good spelling...
First off, it is spelt Judgment. Not Judgement. Although my fingers recoil every time I try and type it. And as Mark 'smartypants' Vellador, SCEA Marketing Manager, points out, that’s the correct spelling in the dictionary too. Yeah? Well… Poo to you with knobs on, Vellador. (There’s a prize for anyone who can work out where the hell that phrase sprung into my brain from).
Okay, real details now. It’s going to cost $70. It’s more expensive than a normal game but it comes with a host of physical goodies too. Naturally, there’s the PlayStation Eye camera and there’s the 9 Fields Battle Mat, plus you get a Starter deck with 30 Summoning Cards + 4 Function Cards, and a booster pack.
The sets sold separately are being distributed by Wizards of the Coast. Booster packs come with 8 randomly inserted Summoning Cards of which one is guaranteed to be rare or ultra rare. Not being much of trading card game player myself, I’m guessing you’ll be going out and buying more booster packs ($3.75) in future and trying to trade the contents with other kids in the digital playground. There will even be Pre-constructed Theme Decks ($14.99) available too and come with a bonus Summoner’s Companion book with background, play tips and card lists.
Cheating is obviously a concern and Sony has found a simple yet effective way of working around that problem – to prevent you stacking your deck before an online bout, you’re going to have to register you Summoning Deck offline first, then when you come to play online, the PS3 with do the shuffling and you’ll need to arrange your deck as shown.
The Eye of Jdgmnt Judgment is due out in North America on the 23rd of next month, and I’m guessing it’ll take a fair bit of time for it to get through regionalisation process. A bit like Lair really… Expansion packs will be following up later that will introduce new cards and new sets.
