Big PlayStation news coming October 12th?
PS3 owners always seem to be waiting for something big that’s just around the next corner. The trouble is once you get round that corner, whatever it was that looked so promising from a distance, seems, well, a little anti-climactic. But that doesn’t matter, because that glittering shiny object round the very next corner looks frickin’ amazing! And so the cycle trudges on, with games like Heavenly Sword and Lair being left scattered by the wayside. Well, here again there’s something new for us to all get our hopes up about (and best of all, we don’t have to wait that long for it) – according to GamePro France, Sony is preparing for a “big-bang” announcement on October 12th.
Our immediate suspicions fall to the much discussed £299 PS3. Which Sony of course reminds us is only “rumours and speculations”. Now that the Halo 3 hype inferno is just starting to cool off, a new SKU or in fact anything that can refresh public interest in the PS3 and stir up sales in the run up to Xmas is exactly what is needed if Sony is to get through 2007 without having its fingers burned. It seems the most likely prospect at this moment, but PS3 owners would probably prefer something more directly affecting their PS3 experience to remind them of the reasons why they coughed up their hard earned cash for the console.
Some new multimedia functionality via a firmware upgrade would be nice, or even a video on demand service from the PlayStation Store – anything to help us believe us that our loyalty is appreciated by Sony. Or could it be that PlayStation Phone? That familiar feeling of eager anticipation is rising again.
