Fake Eye of Judgment cards ruining PS3s first Playstation Eye title
The Eye of Judgment, the first game to use the PS3 version of the Eyetoy – named the Playsation Eye – uses the webcam like invention to scan in cards for you to use during play. Though the game itself comes with a selection of cards in order to jump right into the action, booster packs are to be made available in order to extract a little more money from eager gamers craving a challenge.
But despite Sony’s claims of special inks being used to make copying impossible, Kotaku have proven that the game will happily scan even a fairly sub-par print out of a downloaded card.
Now this little situation won’t change how the game plays. However, it does open up a few problems. Firstly, it’ll no doubt instigate a situation where everyone has some kind of “super deck” of cards, ready to thrash those of us who aren’t overly eager to become some nasty pirates. Making gaming against randoms online as irritating as the kind of folks who immediately choose Chelsea or Barcelona in every single game of Pro Evo.
Plus, if the cards can be easily downloaded and printed off at will, more than a few unscrupulous types will balk at the thought of shelling out real cash for booster packs. If your cheapo printer can do the same for a tiny fraction of the price, what would be the point in popping to the shops and buying yet another pack of cards?
That being said, as expensive as it’s going to be for those of us who enjoy all this collecting business, Eye of Judgment is blooming great fun. Though typing Judgment feels a bit odd.
