First 40GB PS3 spotted

Okay, so this isn’t an actually ‘in the flesh’ sighting, but this image floating around the intertubes adds yet another compelling bit of evidence for the much rumoured and speculated 40GB PlayStation 3 model. The price is set 489 EUROS, which goes along with the anticipated £299 / $399 SKU. Another more expensive offer also includes FIFA 08 – a bundle which itself has been mentioned by Sony previously.

It seems pretty much inevitable that Sony’s ‘big bang’ announcement on October 12th will be the official unveiling of the low priced SKU. We’re now just wondering how the £125 price difference is being accounted for – will it indeed come without premium features such as WiFi and card readers like the previous 20GB model or without USB ports as was speculated previously? Or will Sony be going all out and announcing a 60GB model price cut at the same time?
