Rumour: Ico development team working on sequel?
Ah the beauty that was Ico and Yorda’s world. Although the game only sold 650,000 thousand copies worldwide Ico became a cult hit, to the extent that in 2006, five years after its release it was reissued. Ever since we’ve got our hands on it we’ve been waiting for a sequel, and although Shadow of the Colossus was another beauty, it wasn’t the spiritual sequel we wanted, craved for even. But now Kaz Hirai has given us hope again, by hinting that the original development team may be working on Ico’s sequel.
While at TGS, the Official PlayStation Mag spoke to the Sony president and asked him what Team ICO were up to. His response was that he wasn’t quite sure, but he did say something pretty profound;
“I'm pretty sure they're doing the sequel.”
I want to believe that this is fact, but I think Kaz may have just said that as he in truth didn’t have a clue. Now this could go a few different ways – slapped wrists for Kaz, and being told not to say something so silly that’ll get the fans riled up again. Option two – the team now feel pressured to start work on a sequel they had no plans to do, and the world cheers. Final option – Kaz got it right, and Team Ico is already working on the project! Great!
