Warhawk expansion rumoured, Sony’s Xmas looks brighter

Whisperings coming in from across the pond are pointing at a Warhawk expansion coming in December. Details are pretty vague: the most concrete info is that there might be a new vehicle – one which can pick up and drop off other vehicles. A task that sounds mostly pointless, unless it can pick up a vehicle bearing a flag carrier.

No new maps or weapons are mentioned, although it should be reasonably certain that there’ll be a new map or two at the very least. I can’t quite see how a new weapon would fit in seeing as for both Warhawks and soldiers the weapons slots are already filled – meaning that although you could introduce more, you couldn’t actually select them without seriously changing the controls.

I used to love Warhawk. Then Team Fortress 2 came along and I damn near forgot all about it. Although they’re both multiplayer shooters, there’s really not a lot of other similarity between them so an expansion really might get me interested again. What Warhawk actually needs to do, now that the stats issues are all sorted, is introduce a far better buddying or squad system. I know it can be done because Resistance already has it down perfectly. When I play online with a friend I want to be able to speak to them directly; I don’t need my voice transmitted to all the rest of the team just to say “get in my Warhawk you Jessie – we won’t die this time, I promise”.

And one more thing - package this game with every PS3 sold. It's too small to be a full title but it's still the best thing on the PS3.

WICKED!! Only a fool would say 'one which can pick up and drop off other vehicles. A task that sounds mostly pointless' sadly the person who said that was -Al W- the person who wrote this article. Poor guy doesn't have a clue. What is pointless is, if u CAN pick up a vehicle with the flag carrier. WTF is the point of that, u might as well just be able to hop in a plane with the flag, no need for a vehicle. A vehicle carrier was one of the first updates I wanted in the game, if this is true it will add a whole new dimension to the game. And as for new weapons... they can add as much as they like all they need to do is add more empty boxes, I dont see how it's a problem, u wld just scroll to find the weapon of choice. BRING IT ON SONY!!!

John: I'm thinking of it this way - your flag carrier is legging it away from the enemy camp at ninteen to the dozen, being harassed as usual by an array of Warhawks and tanks, then you drop in out of the sky and scoop them and the flag up in your vehicle carrier.

It's more fair than simply allowing flags in Warhawks as it would require teamwork and coordination. But I'm less certain about how much difference being able to redistribute a few vehicles around the map would make otherwise. Although the maps are big, the vehicles aren't so slow as to really need to be flown around, surely?

Which game modes would benefit the most do you think?

Hello Al W - Whats up mate? (cheers for the reply btw) Scooping yr mate up with the flag would almost be the same as him travelling with u in the plane dont u think?? I'm thinking more of reinforments, you've just taken over a base (Zones) close to their original spawing base and you deperatley need men, or tanks, yr warhawk buddies drop two tanks with 3 men inside. Or if you need back-up while driving with the flag (or u've dropped it), yr vehicle is almost dead two warhawks come, drop two jeeps with men - BANG yr sorted. But I guess adding vehicle carriers is not essential, I would like to see more maps, and if not, more weapons maybe enhanced ones?? Doesn't it bother you when u empty a FULL clip on someone and they're still not dead? Or when u cld swear yr far enuf away from a mine yet u still get blown to shreads! I would prefer the mines to give a little beeping sound just before detonation. And 100% friendly fire really gets my goat, u have these wankers who will kill u for the flag, or to get extra points or they're just assholes/traitors. Sony really needs to do something about that. U got anymore updates u would like?? (off the subject... what did u think about the ratchet and clank demo??)

I guess I see where you're coming from - maybe a new game mode or two would make that even more doable, and given how little we currently know about the expansion, I can't see why that wouldn't be possible.

Definitely to new maps, but as I said, I don't think they would seriously consider shipping an expansion pack without one or two.

I have noticed that mines do make a beeping noise, while they're armed - it is kinda hard to hear and basically only useful if you are fairly certain that there is a mine there, but I'm sure it is there.

I suppose that weapon and possibly armour upgrades would be possible as well - maybe some anti-tank 'nades or something too.

Yeah Friendly Fire is a pain, I think you lose serious points if you kill a friendly flag carrier, but you should also be prevented from picking up the flag afterwards.

Anyway - a lot of this stuff could/should be done with just an update. Hopefully an expansion would mean more maps, maybe more modes too. I'm thinking Unreal Tournament's Onslaught mode would be great.

We don't have the Ratchet and Clank demo in the UK unfortunately. Maybe next week - fingers crossed.

YES!! Body Armour!! Genius mate!! Yeah that is definetly needed. I would also love to have landmines u cld drop/throw from a warhawk, that would be SICK!! And as for Ratchet and Clank just create an american account with a US address (I used one from San Andreas LOL) and yr sorted, u can get ALL the content they have, which is also quite a bit. I also have a Hong Kong/Japanese one as well, they have some great stuff there too, I downloaded this Sony video of these dudes in Japan playing Warhawk for the 1st time, funny as hell. So get cracking mate and get those demos. I'm in the UK as well mate, we should meet up in Warhawk, what is yr points tally and rank?? My online name is Spiku if u ever want a game or two. Catch u later mate
