The Club, due out early next year, is the first attempt by Bizarre Creations, creator of Xbox 360 hit franchise Project Gotham Racing, at a serious console shooter. Not the easiest market to break into by virtue of the fact that there are, on average, seventeen console shooter titles per capita at the moment. The Club is setting itself aside from the legions of rivals by bringing a highly original scoring system to the multiplayer shooter equation – for example: stringing kills into combinations, extra points for style, ricochets and shooting special ‘skullshot’ symbols – while still retaining that all-important pick up and play accessibility.

Basically it looks a bit like Unreal Tournament, Tony Hawk, Street Fighter and PGR all met up in a dark alleyway, and promptly shot each other. Confused yet? Don’t worry; there’s a brand new video tutorial to talk you through it:

Although our minds are currently brimming with excitement about the many other fantastic shooters due out between now and the new year, once the festive season has been and gone and we’ve gluttoned ourselves senseless on those titles, we’ll be looking for fresh ways of getting some serious online pwnage in. The Club is definitely shaping up to be one of the more intriguing titles for early next year, but will still be facing stiff competition from the likes of UT3 and Army of Two.
