PES 2008 patch finally arrives - and it barely fixes a thing

pes2008_logo.jpgSo the patch that all us PS3 owning Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 fans have been craving has finally appeared. Coming in at over 100MB of patchy goodness, we were all hoping for the horrible jerky mess that were the offline modes to be fixed, and the lag fest online section of the game to now run even smoother than the proverbial silk.

Well, sadly Konami have decided to treat us like absolute fools yet again. The framerate problems have indeed been fixed, with the game now running at a suitably impressive lick. However, this seems to have been gained by actually REDUCING the quality of the already lowly textures on screen, making Pro Evo 2008 looking even further from a true next generation title than ever.

And as for the online section, it’s still as laggy and disastrous to play as ever before. Teleporting players are still the norm rather than an odd irregular occurrence. Though the huge patch does seem to have given us a message declaring that the online mode is currently being looked at. Great.

So all in all, a big minus point for Konami and their horrendous treatment of long term fans. All they had to provide was a smooth online experience and we could have ignored the lack of true progress from last year’s iteration. But no, they can’t even manage that. And when they do finally get around to patch the game, it delivers barely half of what we’d hoped to receive. Get it traded in and buy a copy of FIFA 08. The only way they’ll learn is if we vote with our wallets.
