PS3 closing the gap to Wii sales - Sony finally found a winning strategy?
It’s the news Sony have been hoping for – the gap between Wii and PS3 sales in Japan has shrunk for the forth consecutive month. While 110,415 Wii’s flew off the shelves, and into the living rooms of many of the great unwashed, 47,183 PS3 consoles were sold during the same four week period to October 28.
Nintendo may still have a very ample lead, but considering the Wii outsold the PS3 by a huge 6-to-1 margin back in June, it seems that Sony have finally found the winning ticket with the recent price-cuts, and a much wider and more varied brand of games available for the hulking beast that is the PS3. However, with Mario Galaxy released only yesterday in Japan, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the difference stretched a little further for the month of November.
To put these figures a little into perspective, only 18,717 Xbox 360 consoles were sold during the same period in Japan. Although, in all honesty, that’s quite a healthy number considering the lack of interest Japanese gamers have consistently held in Microsoft’s consoles.
