No NiGHTS for European/US PS2 owners - it's a Japan only release

nightsintodreams.jpgAfter the wondrous news that the sublime Saturn classic NiGHTS was due a port to the PS2 – marvellous solely because I’ve no room for my Saturn under my TV what with my current PC Engine obsession – all our dreams have been firmly dashed as it transpires that there are “no plans” for this PS2 remake to be released outside Japan. Boo.

Apparently it’s all down to demand. Orignal NiGHTS designer Takashi Iizuka stated that, “It is being released in Japan, due to the high demand for the game. So there are no plans for a worldwide releases… so far.”

The ‘so far’ part of that little comment excites me a little, but it seems as if my dreams of giving myself a little living room space have been firmly dashed. It’s a huge shame too, as NiGHTS really deserves to find itself a brand new audience among the massive PS2 user base. Seems as though it’s either an import, or setting up the old Saturn once again if you want to play one of THE best games of all time. A huge shame.
