PS3 sales to catch up with the Wii? Apparently so...

PS3_Horizontal.jpgHere at PSPSPS we know a little about money, but probably not quite as much as The Economist. So when they say the PS3 is going to catch up with the Wii's sales, we listen. It might seem impossible, considering that this Christmas Nintendo's casual console is the year's sell-out must have gift, but according to a very clear piece of graph work, the Wii's lead is not to last. The only negative for Sony in The Economist's very helpful sales diagram is that the PS3 will catch up not this year, or next, but by 2011.

Screen Digest, the consultancy behind the figures, predicts that the PS3 will catch up with the Wii at just over 70 million units. The reason for such incredible sales is, according to Screen Digest, a public who are likely to tire of the Wii's underwhelming visuals, meaning the gadget's desirability will eventually fade. If the predictions are true, the future is bright for both Sony and PS3 fans, but it's likely the only thing to stop Wii sales will be when the time comes that everyone who wants one has one.
