You know this rumour of a price drop for the 40GB PS3 in the US? Well, coming from the not exactly reputable ‘VG Rumors’ comes word that not only is the current black 40GB console set to drop to £299 as of next week, it’ll also be the starting point for the brand new sparkly white console too.

According to the aforementioned site, stock of the new console are all set to arrive Friday, and all ready to go on sale Monday. Apparently Sony are keeping stock to a lowly figure in order to ramp up demand, hopefully to create a similar buzz as what surrounds the still impossible to buy Wii’s.

All sounds brilliant, right? Well don’t go getting your monies together for Monday morning just yet. My big problem with this piece of news is that the ONLY source is a ‘blogspot’ site that’s only been live for a matter of days. Not exactly the kind reputable sources that leaked the news of the last price drop.

Personally, I’d say wait and see. If all this happens, then fantastic. But it’s much more likely that said drop will happen around the time of the GTA IV launch, if at all. File this one under potential rubbish. Though last time I said that, I said it was highly unlikely Bungie would leave the cosy bosom of Microsoft…
