PS3 sales target cut, but profit from games is up
Things seem oddly turbulent in PlayStation 3 land. On the one hand, Sony has revealed that its games division netted a decent profit in the last quarter – thanks to software sales and reduction in PS3 production costs. Things are even looking so good for the handheld PSP that the company even expects sales to go 3 million beyond its original estimates.
The flipside is that Sony is revising its previous 07/08 sales estimate for the PS3. This has been shunted down from a lofty 11 million to 9.5 million. The PS3’s difficult start in life is basically to blame, but with the Blu-ray laser problem solved, the lack of decent games problem solved, and more than a few massive exclusives still in the pipeline, this change shouldn’t be too disastrous.
In fact, this news also means that all three consoles have posted a profit in the latest rounds – it might even just be worth stopping all this inter-console bickering and accepting there’s space in the market for all of them. So, even though the global economy may be perched precariously over a whirlpool of torment, everything in gamesville is looking peachy. It should be a great year for gaming.

Well, I wouldn't say their lack of decent games problem has been solved but they're getting there.
For the most part they need some decent compelling exclusives, and although there are a few coming out this year they'd better hope they do well.

But with all the Sony hate out there, after we have Final Fantasy, MGS4, LittleBIGPlanet, GT5 etc, people will STILL claim the PS3 has no games.
It's like a poster over at PSPFanboy who, in response to an article announcing 3.90 with SKYPE has arrived said "....it won't save the increasingly pointless PSP".
Right, okay. I've never seen the point of a handheld device that can play games, view the internet, play music and video, make free VOIP calls, stream your PS3 or TV (LocationFree) anywhere in the world, become a video camera, or a satnav........NOT.
