Alone in the Dark PS3 delayed, various other versions due in May
Atari is now definitely part a growing list of companies that can’t seem to get to grips with the PS3. A new press release has confirmed earlier suspicions that while versions for Wii, PC, PS2 and some kind of Xbox thingy are all due in May, the PS3 version is still “following later in 2008”. *Sigh*.
I remain entirely confident that this is because the PS3 contains such AWESOME POWER that it’s potentially LETHAL to expose unsuspecting gamers to the full strength of it. Other versions are being released first in order to allow PS3 gamers time to adjust, so that they can be fully prepared to brace their minds against its overwhelming might once the PS3 version limps along later.
Incidentally, the press release in which this nasty bit of Xboxer ammunition was hidden (right at the end, as if we wouldn’t notice) was heralding the launch of a brand new Alone in the Dark website, which you can find here.
Like pretty much every games website these days it’s utterly riddled with slow loading flash finery, as though games companies are trying to fight Bit Torrent piracy by using any opportunity to suck up as much of you bandwidth as possible.
That whinge aside, it’s actually pretty intriguing bit of websitery – rather than your usual array of viral shaky-cam video and made up crap (well there’s a little of that), it actually has some pretty interesting links to strange facts and phenomena that surround New York’s Central Park, all of which provide the eerie back drop to the full game.
I’m just left wondering one thing about New York though... What with the alternative history Nazis invading, giant monsters attacking it, gangsters battling to control the streets, viruses wiping out the human populace, a one man army on a bloody rampage to avenge his murdered wife and son AND a nanotech augmented agent tearing up a dystopian future (to name but a few) – isn’t a sentient evil lurking beneath its biggest landmark just going to take it over the edge? Real estate price must be plummeting.
