Apple Mac to give PSP a run for its money?

images.jpegIt has recently emerged that Apple Mac made a trademark application for what looks like a forthcoming handheld gaming device from the company who brought you iPods, iPhones, the first 'iconic' must-have laptop. The idea of a company who have been so successful with everything they touch is an exciting one indeed, and while it might send a shiver of fear down the spine of PSP fans, the competition could only make our favourite handheld better. Or make it totally redundant perhaps, like the iPod almost did to every other MP3 player, but that is unlikely.

As spotted by TradeMork, Apple filed to make sure their trademark now covers “hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games”.

Not a 100% concrete confirmation of the iPSP then, but it shows recent internet speculation has some substance to it. Apple are definitely thinking about it, and Sony are no doubt preparing themselves for it.
