Army of Two development led on Xbox 360, admits EA

*Sigh* The PS3 has been around for over a year now and I think there’s one thing we’ve all learned in that time: trying to port Xbox 360 games to PS3 doesn’t work very well. And if there’s one company that’s been taught that lesson repeatedly, it’s EA. In fact they’ve even said that leading on the PS3 was the reason Burnout: Paradise compared so well on the two rival consoles. But apparently the Army of Two team didn’t get the memo (or had already half finished the 360 version by the time they realised) and has been leading the game’s development on the Xbox.

We don’t need to have panicky Madden flashbacks just yet though – Army of Two assistant producer, Matt Turner, has stated in an interview that the game “looks great on both of them”. Hmm, I notice he doesn’t say ‘runs great’ on both of them.

Ah, but, he also says “As far as the gameplay goes, on both consoles it's the same. There's no differences." Again Mr Turner, we’re certain that the gameplay is the same but its more about the things like frame rate, texture quality and jaggies that are really going to set the Xbox 360 vs PS3 comparisons alight with fanboy rage.

Videogamer did try valiantly to pin down whether there would be any graphical differences between the versions, only to be met with “Our lighting guys are like "oh I can see a pixel that's different" but it's right on the money.” Oh deary me – that’s not the definitive NO we tend to hear from devs who know there are genuinely zero differences between versions. Looks like we PS3 have to pray for a miracle and prepare for a few scathing remarks from our Xboxer brethren.

I guess we can also take some consolation from knowing that this could be one of the last games afflicted by this problem - devs are seem to be having a lot less trouble with the PS3 now and EA has indicated that future games are being PS3-led.

This is a no win situation, if PS3 is the lead console the 360 version gets gimped, the only way to be fair to both is to program them both at the same time with different teams but i can understand why that wouldn't be practical from a developer's point of view.

i agree with sam but there is a way to be fair is to lead on pc and port it to xbox 360 and ps3

@amroalhiasat

I'm not sure that's fair either. One of the strengths of the Xbox 360 platform is that it is so closely comparable to a PC. Leading on the PC should basically favour the 360. That said, FarCry 2 devs don't seem to be having much of a problem.

i think this is gonna be a great game, on both consoles. i know dev have trouble un leading development on ps3 but in the end i think this game will look similar in both consoles. EA wants to sell and don´t wanna lose ps3s owners. bye
