GTA IV for PS3 to outsell Xbox 360 version*

Microsoft is pretty confident about its chances in the upcoming console showdown around the launch of the Grand Theft Auto IV. And it has every right to be – it has bagged itself an exclusive content deal that literally means the only place to experience the ‘full’ GTA experience is on Xbox. Plus the only preview content seen so far has been running on the 360, so there’s little chance of the game looking or running any better on the PS3.
And you can add to that the fact that there are over one and a half times as many Xbox 360 s out there in the market place (actually, it’s more like 3 times in America), so in terms of sheer install base numbers, it should have the edge. Or so you’d think.
Thus it is with some surprise and much delight that we find that the majority of players (surveyed) who are planning on buying GTA IV, are opting to do so on PS3. Of those polled, 49% are choosing the PS3 version, where as a meagre 46% will be buying the one for the Xbox 360. Only a moody 6% have decided not to buy it; we assume they’re Wii owners.
Of course, you need to bear in mind that this is but one simple survey, carried out on one set of blogs and then carefully photoshopped into a misleading, poorly labelled graph format. It isn’t going to stand up to close scientific scrutiny or anything, so don’t get too upset if you don't agree. We did however run it on Xboxer, our sister site, to maintain some semblance of fairness, and given Xbox's obvious advantage in the GTA IV battle it is a pretty interesting outcome.

So, a lovely skewed graph there, indicating a difference of three percent. I'd love to see the end figures, because the day before yesterday, it was more 360 than PS3. Still, good poll.

And I can remind them that with a 250% bigger console base (was 300% until the latest figures)any cross-platform sales figure for MS which is less than 250% more than Sony is actually a failure in real terms.

I like the graph.. the graph is my friend! As a demo-graph, it means nothing, but as a tool for lurve, I can convince my girlfriend that size is relative.. Just, please, GTA.. don't let us down. It a graph, but anyways who cares, aslong as we can all play a great game on our great consoles, that all that really counts. The real deal is that i get to play GTA IX and resistace2 and MGS4 and a bunch of games on my PS3. Thats the real deal and i get to enjoy lots of games. Xbox my have exclusive episodes or what but i can just what it on the internet and as long as im playing a game thats fun, thats all that should matter

Nice biased survey along with a shit graph to make it look as if the PS3 made a revolution when you only surveyed a fraction of the gaming community. 3% difference? Oh damn guys, PS3 is making a revolution! NOT.

I can see why the PS3 will sell more GTA games at launch. When GTA is released, PS3 will finally have a good game and all those PS3 owners have been die'n for something good. The 360 owners have been keeping busy with the great game lineup that's already released. GTA is just another game for the 360 owners whereas PS3 owners finally have something worth waiting in line for.
