Sony planning budget range of PS3 games for Japan

Nevermind the commonly heard anti-PS3 whinge of ‘oh-but-there-aren’t-any-games-for-it’; in Japan there are now so many of the damned things that Sony is gearing up to release a new budget range under the label “PlayStation 3 The Best”.

Perhaps cutting the price of a selection of titles doesn’t actually give you more to choose from, but some games end up looking a lot more appealing when you don’t have to forgo a decent round of Friday night pints just to pay for them.

The Best line-up will, according to IGN, be selling from March 19th for 3,800 Yen each, which is a little short of twenty quid – not bad at all. The range so far includes Resistance: Fall of Man, FolksSoul (aka Folklore), Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gundam: Target in Sight and Ridge Racer 7.

There’s a couple of decent titles in there at least – although Heavenly Sword’s absence is quite surprising. The brevity of the game was its main undoing, but that would be a lot easier to swallow if the price was cut.
