Viking: Battle For Asgard gets a new video and website

Viking: Battle for Asgard is a console title from Creative Assembly – better known for their Total War series. Although we’re starting to see a lot more RTSs heading to consoles, Creative Assembly decided to stick to tried and tested console ground with a good old fashioned hack-and-slash epic. Even though it's due out next month, the hype around feels a little lacking, so it’s quite handy that publisher Sega revealed a flashy new website that's worth a look and comes complete with a heart-warming, dismemberment filled video.

As you can see, the Creative Assembly team has shed the shackles of historical accuracy (not that that is a bad thing) and gone for a fanatasy theme. And the liberal amounts of gore mean that this will be one to play after the kids have gone to bed.

This isn’t the developer’s first stab at a console slasher either. A previous effort, Spartan: Total Warrior, launched across the full set of last-gen consoles but was met with a bit of a luke warm reception. Hopefully that will have give the devs time to learn from their mistakes and up the ante on their this-gen outing.

Viking does look like it might risk treading on God of War’s toes, but we’ve been promised a much larger scale of combat than you usually see in similar hack-and-slash games. The Total War roots should see well populated battlefields populated with lots of NPC and a decent amount of free-roaming open world game play.
