Maybe MGS4 ISN'T the best game ever - Eurogamer gives it 8/10
The reviews are really starting to stack up with Metal Gear Solid 4 13 days away from launch, and Eurogamer haven't been quite as complimentary as the official Playstation mags.
They're most critical of the convoluted storyline, stating that, "even keen students of Metal Gear lore are going to struggle to follow this tangled tale." They continue to state that, "it is in all honesty a mess...and by the end it's totally unclear who is on which side, or what's a stake."
Yet despite this apparent flaw, an end score of merely 8 out of 10, and a review that does read quite overly critical, for Metal Gear fans it seems like this is as glorious an end as the series could ever get. "You could not ask for a funnier, cleverer, more ambitious or inspired or over-the-top conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series."
A confusing and lengthy story is fine with me, though it does sound as if Kojima has attempted to cram in far too much. Personally I'd say wait for our reviews/thoughts when we lay our hands on copies. But then I would say that wouldn't I.

Eurogamer are quite tough critics you know, Chris. They gave Gears of War an 8 of 10. Halo 3 as well, but i'm not sure on the latter

Oops my mistake, not Halo 3. Bt anyway, MGS4 got 5/5 from gamepro and 9.9/1O from IGN UK, if you want to know

I get the feeling that if someone had the guts to tell Hideo Kojima that his storylines are far too convoluted he might actually make a game worth sticking with till the end rather than one that bores the pants off you with pretentious, nonsensical plotting and endless cut scenes. He's the 'Wachowski Brothers' of gaming.

I think they gave it a very good write up. For Metal Gear Solid and its traditionally interminably long and boring cutscenes, you can never ever hope to please everyone all the time. TBH, any 10 out of 10 score is going to be pretty unrealistic. I think I'm going to loathe that side of it, but the review definitely made me want to check it out regardless.

Well he did say that it was a game for the fans.
Also some of us enjoy the lengthy cutscenes.

Just because you don't understand something dosn't mean it's not clever, interesting or good.
Also with the ''long and boring cutscenes'', i'm sorry but what are you comparing it too? I've seen plenty of copy-cat American games that drag on and on with the same old crap.
MGS brings something new to the table each time (and invented the table).
If you fail to understand the messages and story go and buy another game with a simple crap story. You would be crazy to buy MGS4 and than whine about the narration. It's like buying a Final Fantasy game and than complaining that there's too many cutscenes (much more than mgs by the way).
