Valve thinking about a Left4Dead PS3 port, but admits it's harder than 360
If we learned one thing from The Orange Box, it's that Valve doesn't really work all that well with the PS3. It actually farmed out the task of porting Half Life 2, the two episodes, Portal and Team Fortress 2 over to an EA in-house team and although they still made a decent effort, it was obvious that EA's lot were still struggling to make the very PC-orientated package run smoothly on the PS3.
Which of course doesn't bode all that well for Left4Dead - Valve's upcoming multiplayer zombie survival shooter. It has already confirmed the game for Xbox 360 and PC. Valve isn't under any pressure to opt for platform exclusivity but explains that its reasoning is simply that "It just makes it really easy and simple, to the point where it would just be stupid if we ever don't do a 360 version of one of our games. "It literally almost comes for free for us."
However, a PS3 conversion isn't entirely out the question - Valve is waiting to see how Left4Dead (which has received overwhelming praise in every preview so far) does in the wild before it'll consider a PS3 port.
"On the PS3 it's just a different beast for us", Valve's Chet Faliszek revealed to VideoGamer. "That's not to say that we won't do some version later but at this point we're just concentrating on PC and Xbox." We'll take that to mean they're waiting to see if EA thinks it's popular enough to want to port to PS3 and confident enough to risk another round of 'ZOMG lazy developer!!' cries from the PlayStation fanboy community.

Unfortunately, Valve's disparaging remarks regarding the PS3's architecture, the garbage port of Orange Box that they ALLOWED, and their continuing 'fear' of going a new direction in programming/technology, has already made me never want to purchase a Valve IP. So, screw you Valve.

How innovative can this game be when its developers are not using the most innovative console?

Joe,
Innovative and brilliant though the PS3 might be, it is in the end a home console, limited by the fact that's it's designed for simple home entertainment functions. That's not necessarily a problem, in fact it's huge benefit in terms of accessibility.
The PC however has none of those limitations at all, as well as access to far more powerful hardware and a far more diverse range of functions. On the downside we get crap like Windows Vista, but on the upside there's a lot more scope for gaming innovation.
