Activision filing reveals Guitar Hero: Metallica for Q1 2009
Activision is doing little to dispel the belief that now that the brains behind the Guitar Hero series have jumped ship to create Rock Band, the publisher is trying anything to scrape every last seedy dollar from the franchise barrel. A recent SEC filing reveals that Guitar Hero: Metallica is due out early next year along with 'proper' Guitar Hero 4.
Given that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is due out later this month, we can hardly be surprised that Activision would want to follow up with more band-exclusive games. Metallica and its extensive fan-base seems like a logical choice too. Although with the infamous anti-piracy metal crusaders at the helm, I think it's safe to rule out any chance of getting some free downloads for the game.
I'm just wondering how long this trend can go on for. Despite the massive popularity of the bands involved, it surely is limiting the potential audience by sticking so closely to one artist (it doesn't make the mistake of solely having one artist's tracks though). Guitar Hero: Radiohead? Nirvana? The Eagles? Where will it stop?
Actually, the moment they announce a Guitar Hero: U2 I will officially hang up my guitar, and only pause to lament the fact there's no longer a USB cable on which to hang myself.
