New Resident Evil 5 trailer reveals female side-kick
As promised, Capcom provide a fresh peek at Resident Evil 5 this weekend at the Captivate08 event. You can see it here, but you can also hit up GameTrailers for the Japanese full HD version.
First and foremost, we get a look at Chris Redfield's new partner. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this will be the character controlled in the rumoured coop mode. Chris can also be heard making a reference to previous Resi star, Jill Valentine.
Africa is also confirmed as the setting for the game, ruling out Haiti as was once suggested. People are undoubtedly going to pick up on the fact that the residents of this latest Zombie infested locale are not looking quite as *ahem* ethnically distinct as they once might have. Whether intentional or not, it is probably for the best if Capcom wishes to avoid more controversy.
The Las Plagas parasites from Resi 4 have apparently made a return, as has the enormously successful combat style. Those who, like myself, were hoping for a slight return to the survival horror school of gameplay instead of Resi 4's action horror are going to be disappointed, but sheer beauty of the graphics, action packed sets and the impressive number of onscreen enemies could help ease the pain.
The game hits shelves in early '09.
