Rumour: Firmware 2.40 landing on June 18th

Okay, we're not working with much here: just an unconfirmed date from a very unconfirmed source, written in a language I don't speak. But it says June 18th for the Firmware 2.40 patch. This rumour is apparently more convincing than another one that said June 10th. Keeping up? Good.

There's no real reason to put our faith in this date, but we do know that Sony is planning a big overhaul of the PS3 firmware at some point over the summer.

It is also being suggested that the next firmware, v2.40, will include contain two highly sought after upgrades - in-game access to friends lists and messaging (AKA in-game XMB), and possibly even PS3 trophies (Sony's answer to Xbox Live Achievements).

Keep your fingers crossed, but don't expect to hear any official confirmation from Sony until only a couple of days before the download launches.
