James Bond games to be released annually by Activision

quantum.jpgActivision Blizzard's ramping up the James Bond games franchise, with the news that it'll be an annual franchise according to analysts at Cowen and Company. According to analyst Doug Cruetz, "James Bond will become an annual franchise, which we had not necessarily expected given the lack of an accompanying movie next year."

This is faintly worrying. Very few games franchises can sustain a release annually, unless you count the often rather lacklustre racing and sports titles released by EA. Still, it's not as if they're ruining a critically acclaimed franchise. Goldeneye was brilliant, Everything or Nothing was surprisingly really good, but most of the rest of the franchise (and there are a lot of James Bond game) has been either mediocre or awful. Still, the upcoming Quantum of Solace game, due for release alongside the film, should give us at least a rough idea of what to expect.
