2009 will be year of the PSP, says Sony

MysticSilver_front_tilt.jpgSony's marketing machine is in full swing, with PlayStation Canada marketing manger Mark Levitan stating that "...2009 is going to be the year of the PSP."

"We have Resistance: Retribution coming in February but I've seen a lot of the stuff in development and it is not a mistake by any means to a buy a PSP now."

To be honest, I'm still not that sold on the idea of the PSP. Technically, it's an amazing piece of kit, capable of some fantastic graphical feats. But the design of the console seems to encourage PS2 style console games which simply don't work as well on a handheld. Good portable games can't work in the same way that console blockbusters can. They have to be instantly playable and not demand long play sessions. I'm looking forward to seeing the next batch of stuff, but I'm hoping that it'll be properly geared towards the portable format.
